Beekeeping experience day

The ultimate beekeeper experience

Designed for the absolute beginner, gain an insight into life as a beekeeper, and receive practical, hands-on experience with a real hive of bees in our ultimate beekeeping experience day. All you need to bring is a sense of adventure and a pair of wellies!

What you will learn:

  • Introduction: how I got into beekeeping, and why it’s so rewarding

  • Practical: putting your hive together

  • Practical: how to check your hive – a checklist

  • The beekeeping calendar – understanding the life cycles and harvest cycles of bees

  • Practical: identifying and understanding the roles of different bees in the colony

  • Safety and equipment: detailed explanations of each piece of equipment and how it works

  • Safety around bees and hives: safe sites for hives, treating stings, and how to avoid them

  • Common problems: things to look out for – swarms, varroa mite, wasps etc.

What you need to know:

  • 10am-2pm

  • Maximum of 4 people per group

One-to-one beekeeping experience day

Run your own successful hive

Designed for the serious amateur, you will be provided with an expert, one-to-one practical experience, as well as an understanding of the tools and equipment needed to operate your own hive. You’ll even be signed up to your local Beekeeping Association to kick-start your beekeeping journey.

What you will learn:

In addition to the topics covered in our Beekeeping Experience Day, you will delve deeper into topics including:

  • Preventing swarms

  • How to harvest your honey

  • Keeping your bees healthy

  • What you will be provided with:

  • Beekeeping suit

  • Gloves

  • Smoker

  • Hive tool and bee brush

  • Complete hive

  • Nucleus of bees

What you need to know:

  • 10am-5pm

  • One-to-one classes

  • All equipment will be supplied

Build-your-own hive workshop

Discover how to build your own hive and frames in our build-your-own hive workshop.

What you will learn:

Building hives can be tricky if it’s your first time – once you’ve nailed and glued together frames you can’t go back! Join our build-your-own hive workshop where you’ll be guided through the correct process, picking up some of our top hive-building hacks that will save you time and money along the way.

  • 10am - 12pm

Honey harvest

Gain the expertise to harvest your first crop

From harvesting supers, to spinning frames, and bottling jars, experience first-hand the delight of harvesting honey in our half day workshop.

What you will learn:

  • Join our honey harvest workshop to discover:

  • When your honey is ready to harvest

  • The process of extraction

  • Best practice for bottling and labelling your honey

What you need to know:

  • 10am - 12pm

  • All equipment will be supplied
